Comparing different quality models for portals

Purpose of this paper In this paper a brief overview of some proposals of portal quality models is presented and a comparative study is carried out with the objective of establishing the main differences between them, along with their common aspects. Design/methodology/approach In order to compare the different portal quality models, their main characteristics have been analysed and specially, the different dimensions which have been proposed in each model. Findings As a result, several similarities and differences have been established among the portal quality models. For example, the dimensions present in every model are navigation, representation, personalization and intrinsic data quality. This means that, as we expected, researchers pay special attention to visual aspects. Practical implications (if applicable) The presented comparison tries to determine which aspects are important for the quality of a web portal as well as to clarify which proposal is the wider one detecting, if necessary, what dimensions must be added to it in order to consider all the aspects related to web portal quality. What is the original value of the paper Our work tries to obtain a portal quality model applicable to a portal in order to know its quality level. The model could also be used in case of having a low level of quality for a given dimension, giving some guidelines for improving the weak aspects.
